Doug Hie, who has been racing at Kawartha Downs since it opened, and now also serves as track superintendent, scored a victory tonight on Canada’s toughest racing circuit.
His four-year-old gelding Sedona Seelster, driven by Phil Hudon, went gate to wire tonight at Woodbine to win in 1:54.1. It was the first lifetime win for the roan son of Artistic Fella owned by Hie and bred by Seelster Farms of Lucan, Ontario.
Sedona Seelster raced throughout the majority of the 2016 season at Kawartha.
Another Kawartha stalwart, trainer Murray Brethour, also had a win at the Toronto track tonight as his Weatherly was two length the best in his test, winning in 1:52.1. Trevor Henry was at the lines behind the six-year-old gelding by Dali owned by Murray Ferguson Jr. of Sutton West, Ontario.
It was the first win of the season for Weatherly, who scored an eight length win at KD on September 10 last year. He has over $110,000 banked to date in his career.
