While playing in a charity hockey tournament over the weekend, Nick Boyd scored a goal, but it came at a cost.

He was charging hard to the net and in order to avoid a collision with the goalie, he jumped over him only to hit the boards. Hard. Nick sustained multiple injuries including a dislocated shoulder, chipped shoulder bone, fractured rib cage and punctured lung.

One of the most popular drivers at Kawartha Downs each season, Nick has been competing on the WEG circuit during the off season with JRs Big Buddy, a Mister Big four-year-old gelding he’s training for Kawartha veteran Junior West of Orono.

The horse has been consistently picking up cheques and is into go tonight in the 10th race at Woodbine. Nick had been scheduled to drive but will have to sit this one and the next few out while his injuries heal.
