This is the time of year we start seeing the two-year-olds making their first lifetime starts at Kawartha Downs. This Saturday we have five rookies on the program, four of which are sired by Mach Three, who stands stud at Tara Hills Stud in Port Perry.

In race one Show Me Some Magic and Maching Me Zilly will make their racing debuts side by side in posts seven and eight. Tim Gillespie trains Show Me Some Magic for owner/breeder Bruce Cleaver of Corbyville, Ontario. She is a half-sister to $145,000 winner Just One More.

Trainer Murray Brethour will be at the lines of Maching Me Zilly. He co-owns the filly with Leonard Christopher of Acton. Murray has another Mach Three youngster in race five named Creepin. He’ll leave from post four in that race.

The colt, who Brethour co-owns with Dr. Reginald Westgarth and Noblock Racing Stable, is the fourth foal from Murray’s former top race mare Magnify This who won $339,000 during her racing career.

Race five also finds another Mach Three two-year-old in Inkerman Rocket in post two with Tony Kerwood aboard for trainer/owner/breeder George Graham. The other rookie in that field is Iamsam Samiam, a Mister Big colt trained by Doug Hie for owner/breeder Carla Selig of Peterborough.

Saturday is Kawartha’s annual Family Fun Night. Activities include a bouncy castle with slide, face painting, balloon animals, games, activities, prizes and draws for the kids and the young at heart. Kids activities begin at 6:30 with racing underway at 7 p.m.
