Kawartha Downs’ regulars Russell Bax and Per Henriksen both had a winner last night at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto including in the evening’s featured race.
Per’s In Secret captured the $34,000 Preferred Trot with an impressive late rush for Chris Christoforou to win by a neck in 1:54.1 over Fearless Man. It was the second victory in four starts so far this year for the four-year-old Deweycheatumnhowe gelding owned by Henriksen’s Asa Farm of Norwood, Ontario and Andrea Lea Racing Stables of Quebec.
In Secret’s first lifetime win, during his two-year-old season, came in his second lifetime start, at Kawartha Downs, in September of 2014.
Bax’s four-year-old trotting mare Crown Classic was also impressive Monday night, winning her $14,000 race by more than four lengths in a life best 1:58.3. Roger Mayotte was up behind the Muscle Mass daughter owned by Bax’s Baxmar Holsteins of Port Hope, Ontario.
Finishing third in that race was the three-year-old Kadabra filly Miami Magic trained and co-owned by Russell’s brother John. It was the third lifetime start for the filly whose dam is a sister to $1.9 million winner Daylon Magician.
