Kawartha Downs is sad to report the passing of Jerry Robinson, a well known horseman at the Fraserville, Ontario, harness track since its inception 43 years ago.
“I learned a lot from watching him. He was a hard worker and a real gentleman,” said Gord Brown Kawartha’s leading driver for the past several years. “Jerry was a fixture at Kawartha from day one.”
One of Jerry’s best horses was the Gene Abbe gelding Sir Edward Pick while more recently he was the driver of Galagher Seelster, a Mister Big gelding who gave him several trips to the winner’s circle over the past two seasons at Kawartha Downs.
As a driver Jerry had 2,112 victories with $3.2 million in purses.
Jerry passed away today at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. He was 67. He is survived by his daughter, Josie Robinson and her partner Jason Woodward, who is part of the Kawartha Downs’ team, and three grandchildren, Jacie, Joel and Joshua.
Arrangements will be posted when known.
