Kawartha Downs’ regulars enjoyed cheering on the talented trotting filly Elegant Holiday who won four straight races at the Fraserville oval this summer.
The three-year-old daughter of Holiday Road scored a pair of wins in both July and August for trainer/driver Dagfin Henriksen and owners David Heffering, whose Tara Hills Stud bred Elegant Holiday, farm manager Matt Harrison and Murray Brethour. The filly’s victory on July 25 also gave Henriksen win number 100.
Following her last win at KD on August 22, the partners sold her to Waterdown, Ontario, horseman Duncan Brewer who has been racing her at Flamboro and the WEG tracks. On Boxing Day she had her first start at The Raceway in London, Ontario, where she finished second. She’s back at that half-miler on New Year’s Day where she’s drawn post four in race 12. Track handicapper Sugar Doyle has picked her to win noting she was a “gutsy second” in her first London apperance.
A couple of weeks later she’ll be on the move again as she’s slated to sell in the Tattersalls Sale at the Meadowlands in New Jersey on January 18. It’s the first major Standardbred Sale of 2016 and annually an excellent venue to buy and sell quality racehorses.
Elegant Holiday is scheduled to sell as hip number 103 and exactly 100 horses later, Cold Certified is scheduled to sell as hip 203. A six-year-old gelding by Kadabra and a winner of $443,000 lifetime, Cold Certified is trained and owned by Gary Lance of Port Perry, Ontario. He raced once this past season at KD, in October, where he was third. His next start is January 2 at Woodbine.
