It was the night of twos at Kawartha Downs this past Saturday as several horsemen and horses notched doubles.

Murray Brethour started off the trend with horses from his stable capturing the first daily double. In the first race Reg Gassien guided Murray’s three-year-old Mach Three filly Bonnies Gem to a four length 1:59.3 score. Murray was up behind Tobis Town in the same race, and they collected the final cheque finishing fifth.

Brethour was up behind Sibson in race two and that trotter hit the wire first in 2:01.2. It was the first lifetime win for the three-year-old son of Majestic Son owned by breeder Dr. Huw Llewellyn.

Trainer/driver Pat Rouleau and owner Ed Lewis of Angus, Ontario, also accounted for a pair of winners starting with E L Dartsmyboy who nosed out Culpepper at the wire in 1:58.3. It was the first win of the year for the Camluck four-year-old.

Rouleau was back in the winner’s circle two races later thanks to E L Wild Spirit who was a six length victor in 1:57.4. It was the second win in a row for the Lewis-owned son of I Am A Fool.

Also notching his second straight win was trotter Ken Kan Win who was a dominant nine length winner for Gord Brown in 1:57.2. Ronda Markle trains the six-year-old Ken Warkentin son for owner Shawn Moscrop of Cobourg, Ontario.
