Kawartha Downs’ fans will remember the trotter Cold Certified who raced at KD several times over the past few years for local trainer and owner Gary Lance of Port Perry, Ontario.
A winner of $456,000 to date in his career, the now seven-year-old was sold by Lance last month at the Tattersalls January Mixed Sale at the Meadowlands. Paul and Ronald Viele of Batavia, New York, paid $45,000 to halter the horse and it’s proven a good investment so far.

Now trained by Alexander Giuliani, Cold Certified has made two starts for his new connections and won both outings. Each victory came in the Open trot at Buffalo Raceway worth $10,000 so Cold Certified has already earned $10,000 for his new owners in just two tries.

A son of Kadabra, Ontario’s leading trotting sire who stands at Tara Hills Stud Farm in Port Perry, Ontario, Cold Certified last raced at Kawartha Downs in October where he finished third with Nick Boyd in the bike.

Lance, meanwhile, has Cold Certified’s full sister, Magical Steph, to race. The now three-year-old earned $72,000 last year from nine starts as a two-year-old. She had four Ontario Sires Stakes victories among her five wins.
