Kawartha Downs’ perennial leading driver, Gord Brown, made his first 2016 appearance in the race bike last night at Rideau Carleton. Gord and his wife Joy, who capably manages KD’s race office on race nights, enjoyed some time south after the holidays.

Gord had nine drives at Rideau Carleton last night and the results were at both ends of the spectrum. He partnered Heres The Magic to a 2:01.1 winning effort over the snowy surface. It was the first start of the year as well for the seven-year-old gelding by Kadabra owned by trainer Blake Curran and Jason Jamieson of Perth, Ontario.

The former Ontario Sires Stakes star has lifetime earnings of $358,000.

Gord started out the program with a pair of second place finishes as well and one race he didn’t finish at all as his mount Justice Delight, also trained by Curran, threw a shoe and was pulled up.

Gord, who hit 4,000 lifetime victories last year, is closing in on $20 million in lifetime purse winnings.
