Local trainer Russell Bax took two trotters, Crown Classic and Ramas Last Son, to race at Woodbine tonight and they both won their respective races.
Crown Classic, with Roger Mayotte at the controls, won in 1:57 in race three. It was the second straight victory for the four-year-old mare by Muscle Mass trained by Russell and owned by his Baxmar Holsteins of Port Hope, Ontario. She raced twice at Kawartha last season.
In the very next race Russell sent out Ramas Last Son who made a three wide move for Mike Saftic to hit the wire first in 1:55. It was the first win this year for the five-year-old gelding by Majestic Son and a new life mark.
Ramas Last Son, also owned and trained by Russell, competed in last year’s inaugural Goodtimes Invitational at Kawartha Downs where he finished third. The race was named after Russell’s brother John’s outstanding trotter, now a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
