The day begins with the instructor going over both the controls and the safety features of the cars, along with some basic instruction on getting around the racetrack. Next it's a walking tour of the track, where the instructor will point out the different racing "grooves" and how to best position your car for entry and exit of the corners. The emphasis will then turn to the first set of laps on the track. Each student will get ten laps in order to get the feel of the car and get acquainted with the track and its design. All laps will be timed in order to give students a yardstick as they improve throughout the day.
Before the second session begins, pylons will be set up on the race track to offer students a guide as to where they should be braking and accelerating at various points on the speedway. After session one, students will have a much better understanding of the handling characteristics of the car, and their confidence level will have increased getting them ready to see the track in an entirely different light. Each student will take to the track for another fifteen laps, while the instructor carefully evaluates each student.
After the lunch break, the instructor will enter into a detailed discussion with the class, giving each student their lap times as well as individual guidance as to how to improve their driving for the last 15 laps. The instructor will then get into a car himself to demonstrate the best lines around the speedway to improve upon your lap times on the lightening fast 3/8 mile high banked oval. The students then hop back in for their final 15 lap trip around the speedway. By the end of the last session students time will have improved significantly, with some students posting times that would ensure them a great finish in a regular Friday night racing event. At then end of the day the instructor then fields any remaining questions from students. The most popular one being "can we go out again?"
