This is the time of year many race fans looks forward to with the sport’s brightest lights start returning to the racetrack and soon the youngsters will begin to emerge with the next crop of talented performers starting their careers.
That’s very evident by the entries for tomorrow morning’s qualifiers at Mohawk where a total of 13 qualifying races will be contested. There are several performers Kawartha Downs’ fans will recognize. In the tenth race Ken Kan Win and Muscle Museum, mainstays at KD last year, square off side by side in posts five and six respectively.
Jason Woodward, a member of KD’s track maintenance team, has a pair of starters entered tomorrow. In race 12 he starts Howmac Gypsy and in the last contest of the day he sends out Magnify Bliss, both were regulars at KD last season.
Race 11 sees Sophie Blu leaving from post seven. It’s the first start for the eight-year-old mare since KD’s 2017 finale card on September 30.
In the seventh race fans will recognize Charlie Ona Harley who won during Kawartha’s lone Ontario Sires Stakes event last season. Trainer Jack Moiseyev was up behind the Glidemaster gelding for the win at KD in what was the youngster’s second lifetime start.
Charlie only made four starts during his rookie season and tomorrow’s start is his first since last September.
Trainer Luc Blais is starting a number of his stable stars in the qualifiers including Emoticon Hanover ($1.2 million); Lookslikeachpndale ($568,619); Dream Together ($512,000) and Jake ($253,000).
